This is where it all begins…

Blogging is a new part of my life. As you can guess, I’ve never done it before, and never really felt the need to until now. It’s quite an overwhelming thought. The internet is loaded with teems of blogs, vlogs, on all manner of things, and there are LOTS of blogs on gardens, gardening, and all things green, small and beautiful. I am wondering how it will go, will folk want to read my posts, will they be interested, and like my site, can I keep it going and blog away to my hearts content? I’m not even tech or digital savvy. I’ve even had to ask my eldest daughter to help me put my site together and show me “how” to do it. There’s nothing wrong in asking for help; there’s plenty of folk out there like yourself, who type like a Tyrannosaur Rex, and don’t know how to cut n’ paste, save, edit and all that stuff I hear you say. Well, I’m willing to learn, so let’s see how it goes!

I Used to have a social media presence, FaceBook, Instagram and mainly posted up photos of my garden in all seasons and followed groups, individuals and organisations of a horticultural nature, eg, RHS, Kew Gardens, Gardener’s World etc. The reason I stopped and came off social media was for a number of reasons. First, I didn’t like the direction social media was heading, Zuckerberg and all the adverts I was getting. I’m only 51 and how many adverts does one need about retirement homes and villages! Secondly, the influence of the Trump Administration on social media, Twitter or is it X (hmm…) , FaceBook, Instagram. I say this because there was a time when I was on Instagram doing the usual scroll, and wanted to follow the American Bishop of Washington, Mariann Edgar Budde, the first female bishop of the diocese. Budde delivered the sermon at the interfaith prayer service following Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration. Her sermon was brilliant! As soon as I looked her up, pressed follow, I was instantly locked out of my account. Not good! Trump doesn’t like Budde, and he definitely wouldn’t like me following her!  It took me a while to access my Insta account, so I decided there and then, that I would close my account. Both accounts. I wasn’t going to give any more of my time. Take that Meta!! Yes, I would miss commenting and enjoying my daily feed of plant, flower, shrubs, pictures of folks gardens, garden and inspiration on all things green, colourful and organic, stately homes, the RHS, Kew and many more, and the kind thoughtful comments from family and friends.

I think I have come up with something better, something more genuine  which I hope will give delight and joy not just to myself, but to all those who wish to read and follow. The idea of the blog was planted in my mind from a family member last year. Plus, I’ve been told from another family source that there are folk who miss seeing pictures and updates of my garden. Wow! Well thank you, and thank you for being here. I hope you enjoy as much as I do being in tune with nature, and embracing the seasonal living with all it has to offer harvests, sights and spectacles galore.

I came across a quote the other day by Alfred Austin; “The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.” How True! Thank you for reading. Go well and be well. Until next week!
